Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski visits Japan

Poland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski paid an official working visit to Japan on 27–28 February 2025. During the visit, Poland’s top diplomat held consultations with Minister for Foreign Affairs Takeshi Iwaya, during which the ministers signed a new Action Plan for the Implementation of the Strategic Partnership for 2025–2029. The Action Plan sets out priority lines of cooperation between Poland and Japan in the fields of policy, security, defence, economy, science, technology, and culture.

The economic aspect of bilateral relations was the focus of a meeting with representatives of Japanese companies which took part in a business mission to Poland in October 2024, hosted by the Japan Business Federation, Keidanren. Polish chief diplomat also held talks with Defence Minister Gen Nakatani which focused on Polish–Japanese cooperation in the fields of defence and security.

During his visit to Japan, the foreign minister gave an interview for NHK, Japan’s largest television station, took part in a press conference at the Japan National Press Club (JNPC), and delivered a lecture at the prestigious Keio University. On these occasions, the minister spoke about security challenges in Europe and the Indo-Pacific, the role of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, and the future directions of development of the Polish–Japanese relations, among other things. The foreign minister also met with representatives of the Polish community in Japan.

On his visit to Japan, Minister Sikorski was joined by the following representatives of Polish ministries:  Secretary of State at the Ministry of National Defence Paweł Zalewski, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure Maciej Lasek, and Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure Piotr Malepszak. The delegation from the Ministry of Infrastructure was accompanied by President of the Civil Aviation Authority Julian Rotter and CEO of Centralny Port Komunikacyjny Filip Czernicki.
