Inauguration of another edition of diplomatic and consular training programme

05.02.2019

- You are about to begin a very special chapter in your lives. Over the coming year you will be gaining knowledge and skills necessary to do your new jobs - Minister Jacek Czaputowicz told fresh students enrolled in the diplomatic and consular training programme at the MFA Diplomatic Academy.

Inauguration of new edition of diplomatic and consular training programme

Seventeen candidates, selected in a multi-stage competition, will receive the almost year-long training to prepare for work in the diplomatic and consular service. For eighteen weeks, they will attend lectures, seminars, and workshops with outstanding academics and experienced diplomats to learn more about international relations and law. They will also look at the MFA’s work and visit major state institutions which are involved in Poland’s foreign policy. The curriculum also includes study visits to Polish diplomatic missions.

The new foreign service recruits have a wide range of specializations and professional experience. Most of them studied at foreign universities, also in the framework of scholarship programmes in France, Germany, Spain, Turkey, China and Russia. Some graduated from the College of Europe and the Lech Kaczyński National School of Public Administration.

The MFA Diplomatic Academy is a centre of excellence for MFA staff and candidates for work in international institutions. - Our goal is to ensure that diplomatic and consular training becomes the main source of newcomers to the foreign service - said the chief of Polish diplomacy.  - We seek to adapt the training’s curriculum and content to the growing challenges, and to make sure future diplomats are an unshakeable pillar on which we can base an effective foreign policy - added the minister.

During today’s ceremony, 29 people received their acts of awarding diplomatic ranks. Diplomatic ranks are awarded to the graduates of the diplomatic and consular training programme and to the ministry employees who passed the diplomatic and consular exam.
