“We appreciate India’s international position. India is the second largest country in the world, a G20 member with a dynamic economy, an active UN member and one of the most important Asian countries, whose activity and leverage on the international stage keep growing,” said Minister Jacek Czaputowicz during today’s visit of India’s Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar to Warsaw.

“This is the first visit of India’s foreign minister to Poland in 32 years. It takes place at a crucial moment in our bilateral relations. This year we mark the 65th anniversary of establishing our diplomatic relations, and we are about to launch a direct LOT flight between Warsaw and New Delhi,” said Minister Jacek Czaputowicz. He also expressed his hope that the new flight connection, due to be launched in the weeks to come, and Deputy Minister Piotr Gliński’s visit to India scheduled to take place on this occasion, will help foster bilateral relations.

Minister Czaputowicz recalled that India is one of Poland’s most important non-European partners. The ministers talked about investment cooperation, development of trade, and forging closer cooperation in culture and education. They also reviewed the treaty base.

“Poland attaches great importance to a strategic partnership between the European Union and India and sees the need to work out an agreement to boost mutual investments,” said the Polish minister. The officials also discussed Poland’s activity as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, and the situation in Europe in the context of a new institutional cycle, Brexit and developments in Ukraine. Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar mentioned security situation in South Asia. Another topic was cooperation in counteracting terrorism and building peace and security in the Middle East.

At the end of the meeting, the ministers issued a joint statement in which they declared their readiness to give a new impetus to cooperation in both the bilateral dimension and in the EU. They agreed that joint efforts are needed to embrace the responsibility for solving the most pressing global issues.

During his visit to Warsaw, Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar was also received by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Deputy Prime Minister Piotr Gliński.
