Informal meeting of EU political directors
07.03.2025
On 6 and 7 March, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the European External Action Service hosted an informal meeting in Warsaw of political directors from EU members states.
The meeting was presided over by Undersecretary of State Robert Kupiecki, who is also the MFA’s political director. Participants discussed the European Union’s continued support for Ukraine, cooperation with the United States for peace for Ukraine, and developments in the Middle East, including the EU’s involvement in Syria and Lebanon. The meeting was attended by a European Commission representative.
EU political directors are high-ranking diplomatic officials who advise foreign ministers on the EU’s common foreign and security policy. Such informal meetings are organised on a cyclical basis every half-year. They provide an opportunity for strategic talks on the EU’s ongoing major activities as an international actor. In their course, the directors discuss proposed decisions to be later made by foreign ministers at Council of the EU meetings.
