Informal meeting of Working Party of Foreign Relations Counsellors (RELEX and RELEX/Sanctions)

On 10 and 11 April, an informal meeting of the RELEX and RELEX/Sanctions working party was held in Warsaw. It was organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as part of Poland’s Presidency of the EU Council.

The meeting was inaugurated by Director Marta Stachowiak, responsible for the European Union's Common Foreign and Security Policy at the MFA.

Discussed during the informal session were the sanctions’ impact on Russia’s economy and the ways to combat sanction circumvention. The guests presented a detailed system of Russian oligarchs’ business links with the Kremlin in the context of imposing individual sanctions on them.

Besides the EU member states’ delegates, the meeting was attended by representatives of think tanks and guests from EU institutions: the European Commission, the European External Action Service, and the Council.

A cultural programme accompanied the informal session and included visiting the Royal Castle and the POLIN Museum to acquaint the participants from other EU member states with the Polish history.
