Katowice to host 11th World Urban Forum in 2022

22.05.2019

An independent election panel composed of four UN organisations, including the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), picked Katowice to host the 11th World Urban Forum (WUF) in 2022.

WUF conferences are the world’s largest biannual event organised under the auspices of the UN to  promote and review urban development policies.

The first World Urban Forum was organised in  2002 and was  hosted by Nairobi, Kenya. Later, the event took place in Barcelona, Vancouver, Nanjing, Rio de Janeiro, Naples, Medellin, Kuala Lumpur and in 2020 the city to host the event will be Abu Dhabi.

The World Urban Forum in 2022 will be another global event organised in Poland under the auspices of the UN, following the COP 24 climate summit. Katowice will again become a centre of global debate. Poland will thus join the group of countries where key decisions are taken which are of vital importance for broadly understood sustainable development.
