Lublin Triangle marks its first anniversary

28.07.2021

A year ago, on 28 July 2020 in Lublin, the foreign ministers of the Republic of Poland, the Republic of Lithuania, and Ukraine signed a declaration establishing the Lublin Triangle.

Lublin Triangle marks its first anniversary

The birth of the Lublin Triangle coincided with the anniversary of the Union of Lublin. The Triangle is founded on the ties between the three nations, on a common historical heritage, and on the need to further strengthen and support the development of cooperation, particularly in policymaking, security, and the economy. Apart from politicians and officials, the Triangle seeks to engage academia, think-tanks, university students and all others interested in partnering to bring our countries ever closer but also to strengthen Europe and take it forward. The Triangle’s huge potential for cooperation is also aimed at developing cultural links and people-to-people contacts between the citizens of the three countries.

The Lublin Triangle has the special role of strengthening the voice of its members in defending common values and developing joint positions on international security challenges, especially in the light of ongoing conflicts and existing tensions across the region, thus contributing to Europe’s stability. The work of the vice-presidents of parliaments in the Triangle format should also be highlighted in this field.

The recent meeting of the foreign ministers of Poland, Lithuania, and Ukraine in Vilnius on 7 July 2021 provided considerable impetus for the strengthening of Triangle cooperation. The meeting adopted the Declaration of Joint European Heritage and Common Values and a Road Map, setting out the most important directions for the development of the Triangle into the future.

On the occasion of the first anniversary of the establishment of the Lublin Triangle, the foreign ministers of Poland, Lithuania, and Ukraine delivered short speeches highlighting the format’s importance.
