05.10.2021

“I am greatly satisfied with the excellent state of Polish-Turkish bilateral relations and the intensity of visits. It is a proof that we want to raise our political, economic and military relations to yet another level,” said Minister Zbigniew Rau during talks with his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.

The ministers mainly discussed bilateral and international issues. The top Polish diplomat noted that Poland attaches great importance to cooperation with Ankara.

The ministers also highly valued the level of bilateral trade. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic’s adverse impact, trade in 2020 reached over EUR 6 billion. “If only we could remove some serious trade barriers that hamper not only Polish export but also investment opportunities on the Turkish market, we could hope to increase bilateral trade,” underlined Minister Zbigniew Rau.

The ministers also discussed the threats at the eastern borders especially in the context of the situation in Afghanistan and Belarus, as well as migration into our countries.

During the meeting, the officials signed an agreement on cooperation between the Diplomatic Academies of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Poland and Turkey which aims to improve the training system of diplomatic and consular staff.
