Meeting between deputy foreign ministers of Poland and Ukraine

Undersecretary of State Marek Prawda met today with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Olexandr Mischenko of Ukraine. Talks focused on Poland’s support for Ukraine’s aspirations to join the EU, as well as security issues and bilateral affairs.

Deputy Minister Prawda declared that during Poland’s presidency of the EU Council we will continue to support Ukraine on its path to EU membership. He specified that Poland will aim to open the first negotiation cluster, “Fundamentals,” and, if certain conditions are met, also the sixth cluster, “External relations.” Deputy Minister Prawda reiterated the Polish administration’s willingness to support Ukraine on issues related to EU integration, including at expert levels.

The officials also discussed security, including Polish military support for Ukraine. On bilateral matters, they highlighted progress on historical dialogue and the work of the Polish–Ukrainian working group on exhumations.
