22.03.2022

On 22 March, Minister Zbigniew Rau met in Warsaw with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Sweden Ann Linde. The talks between the Polish and the Swedish top diplomats centred around Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, coordination of support for Kyiv, and cooperation within the OSCE.

The ministers discussed the situation in Ukraine also in the context of the demand for increased efforts by the international community to provide political, economic, and humanitarian support to Kyiv. Sweden’s chief diplomat appreciated Poland’s profound assistance for Ukrainian refugees.

The ministers agreed that international sanctions targeting Russia must gain in severity, including by making the European Union independent of Russia’s supplies of primary energy sources.

They also discussed measures within the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, currently chaired by Minister Zbigniew Rau. Poland and Sweden cooperate closely in the OSCE Troika.

The talks also covered the future of the Eastern Partnership, launched in 2009 as the initiative of Poland and Sweden. The ministers emphasised that this policy format must be continued although adjusted to the challenges that arose after Russia's attack on Ukraine.
