This was the second session of the Taskforce for Poland’s Polar Policy. It summed up activities carried out by the team and its Working Groups for the Antarctic and the Arctic which were set up in 2022. The meeting also covered the most important guidelines for the coming year.

During the meeting of the two working groups, the participants learnt about the achievements of Polish polar stations, including the Henryk Arctowski Antarctic Station and the Stanisław Siedlecki Station in Hornsund at Spitsbergen. They were also briefed on the Antoni Bolesław Dobrowolski Station, which was reopened this year at Bunger Oasis in East Antarctica.

The Working Group for the Antarctic underscored that it is necessary for Poland to join the Agreement on the Conservation of Albatrosses and Petrels (ACAP), drawn up in Canberra on 19 June 2001.

The Working Group for the Arctic outlined plans for organising a Polar Conference in May next year and stressed that Poland needs to purchase a polar research ship.

The next meeting of the Working Groups is scheduled to take place in March 2023, while the Taskforce for Poland’s Polar Policy will convene in June and December 2023.
