In their debate, Ministers Zbigniew Rau, Annalena Baerbock, and Jean-Yves Le Drian focused on the current situation in Ukraine and Russia’s aggression against the country.

“The crisis triggered by Russia’s actions against Ukraine is the most serious challenge to the European security since the fall of the Berlin Wall. We condemn in the strongest possible words the unprovoked and unjustified military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine,” emphasised Minister Rau. Referring to the application for EU membership signed by Ukraine’s president, he further highlighted that “Warsaw supports the European aspirations of Ukraine”.

The ministers agreed that NATO and the EU should maintain a unified position with respect to the conflict. The top diplomats welcomed the decision of the EU and other countries to impose severe sanctions on Russia.

Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian presented information about France’s current presidency of the Council of the European Union and its activities, for instance, in the area of the common security and defence, migration and asylum, as well as climate and energy policies.

The governor of the Łódź province spoke about Polish assistance to Ukraine to date, and the support provided to refugees coming to Poland from Ukraine.
