MFA and POLIN Museum cooperate to honour Polish Jews' heritage
16.07.2025
Deputy Foreign Minister Władysław Teofil Bartoszewski and Director of POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews Zygmunt Stępiński have signed a letter of intent, initiating cooperation between both institutions. Its purpose is to build an international alliance for the preservation and development of Polish Jews' culture and heritage.
Launched in Warsaw on 16 July 2025, the initiative also aims to combine the efforts of different bodies working in Poland and abroad to protect and promote the heritage of the Jewish community tied to Poland’s territory over the centuries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and POLIN Museum intend to jointly accentuate that a millennium-long heritage of Polish Jews forms an intrinsic part of the Polish history and culture. Both institutions underline that it is crucial to curate the tragic memory of the Holocaust, which left the Jewish community forever changed. Although marked by painful events, the Polish–Jewish history yielded a heritage of dialogue and coexistence. The letter of intent reflects the need for it to be continued and fostered.
Polish Jews and their descendants spread around the world and became part of a global diaspora or started a new life in Israel after World War II. The newly formed international alliance is aimed at integrating different circles that keep the memory of the Polish Jews alive, no matter where they are based.
The signatories noted a global increase in the number of antisemitic crimes and incidents. This tendency has particularly intensified after the 7 October 2023 terrorist attack on Israel by Hamas. Amidst such events, educational activities targeted against prejudice and intolerance have become even more important.
