MFA statement relative to situation in Ukraine

25.04.2019

Budynek MSZ

Poland supports sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders. Therefore we unambiguously condemn Russia’s policy of “passportization”, which has been used by the Russian authorities in cases of other conflicts.

We consider the decree signed by President Vladimir Putin, allowing to grant Russian citizenship to inhabitants of occupied Donbas in a simplified manner, openly contradicts the spirit of the Minsk Agreements. Such passports cannot be recognized as valid documents of travel. Issuing such decision few days after announcing results of presidential elections in Ukraine, recognised by the international community as meeting democratic standards, constitutes yet another attempt of destabilising Ukraine and undermining its territorial integrity.

Poland, together with a group of UN Security council members, urges Russia to terminate actions undermining efforts to settle the conflict and restore Ukraine’s ability to exercise control over its own territory. Both sides of the conflict should spare no effort to implement their commitments under the Minsk Agreements.
