MFA statement

20.09.2023

On 20 September 2023, Ukrainian Ambassador to Poland Vasil Zvarich was urgently summoned to the MFA. The ambassador was received by the MFA’s Undersecretary of State Paweł Jabłoński.

MFA Statement

The Deputy Minister communicated Poland’s strong protest over the statements made yesterday by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the UN General Assembly which suggested that some EU countries simulate solidarity while indirectly supporting Russia. The MFA deputy head stressed that this claim is wrong and particularly unjustified in Poland’s case, given that our country has supported Ukraine since the first days of war.

Deputy Minister Jabłoński pointed out that pressuring Poland in multilateral fora or submitting applications to international courts are not the right methods to resolve conflicts between the two countries. He also underlined that such actions against Poland will not be effective because the steps taken by the Polish government to protect the interests of Polish farmers are in conformity with national, EU and international law. The MFA deputy chief took this opportunity to express concern about the recent public narrative of Ukraine's highest representatives which imposes a unilateral perspective on the multifaceted problem related to exports of Ukrainian crops to the neighbouring countries.

Deputy Minister Jabłoński expressed his expectation that the policy formed by Ukraine's authorities along with their public communication will reflect the real shape of Polish-Ukrainian relations, both currently and historically, taking into account the unprecedented assistance that Poland and Poles have provided to Ukraine and its people, as well as the full spectrum of our good cooperation.
