MFA takes action to help Poles return home

29.03.2020

Two weeks have passed since the #LOTdodomu programme was launched. Since 15 March, we have helped nearly 42,000 people return to Poland aboard the PLL LOT-operated aircrafts.

So far, special flights brought passengers arriving from, among others, from the Dominican Republic, Indonesia, Thailand, Morocco, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, the Philippines, the Republic of South Africa, Tanzania and many European countries. As part of the EU solidarity, we have aided the return to the Old Continent of nearly 700 citizens of other EU countries. Under the #LOTdodomu programme, we also bring medical supplies to Poland to combat COVID-19 – protective suits, medical tests, gloves and other equipment to meet the needs of domestic institutions.

A Crisis Management Team at the MFA is operational 24 hours a day. Abroad, the diplomatic and consular services are fully mobilized round the clock. Consuls help Poles with finding ways to leave the countries they are staying in, arranging alternative accommodation and provide information on available health services. If Poles encounter problems extending their visas, the consuls also seek to assist them in their communications with local migration services. Due to restricted freedom of movement and curfews introduced in many countries, the consuls help Poles with reaching the airports for repatriation flights to Poland or other European cities.
