Poland established diplomatic relations with Qatar on 16 October 1989. The Qatari head of state’s first visit to Poland, and, at the same time, the first visit by a head of state from the Persian Gulf region to Poland, took place in June 2002, when Emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani arrived in Warsaw.
In 2017, Poland and Qatar signed four agreements on cooperation in the fields of the economy, culture, healthcare and medical sciences, and on the exemption from visas for holders of diplomatic and special passports. In 2024, the cooperation was extended to include, amongst other things, higher education and scientific research. The agreement served as a basis for the intensification of academic links in 2025 and 2026. For more about Poland–Qatar relations CLICK HERE
