On Friday, the Polish MFA head went on a working visit to Slovakia, which is a continuation of the last week’s visits to Prague and Budapest, taking place ahead of the upcoming Polish presidency of the Visegrad Group.

During the meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia Ivan Korčok, the ministers discussed Polish-Slovak relations, including the situation on the border in the context of gradual lifting of restrictions which are currently in force, and the agenda of the forthcoming bilateral visits. Minister Czaputowicz outlined the plans for the Polish presidency of the Visegrad Group, which Poland will assume on 1 July this year. He invited his Slovak counterpart to Poland for the first foreign ministers’ meeting scheduled for 7 July.

The talks also focused on transatlantic relations. “We agree with Minister Korčok on the need for closer EU - US cooperation,” underlined the head of Polish diplomacy. Furthermore, the ministers discussed the necessity for the EU to speak with one voice with respect to Russia and China.

Cooperation to fight the COVID-19 pandemic as well as sharing experiences of reopening borders ahead of the upcoming summer season were also on the agenda.

Last but not least, the top diplomats talked about infrastructure links, including the S1-D3 and via Carpatia expressways, and the progress of construction works of the Polish-Slovak gas interconnector.
