In his speech, the minister focused on security policy, which is based on our NATO membership and a strategic partnership with the United States. The chief of the Polish MFA also talked about Poland’s European policy, bilateral relations with Western European countries and our Central European neighbours. In this context, he referred to the intensive cooperation within the Visegrád Group, the development of the Three Seas Initiative, as well as new formats of cooperation and support for the European integration of the Western Balkans countries. Furthermore, the minister summed up MFA’s activity at the international fora, in particular at the UN Security Council. “The last two years were marked by an unprecedented increase in our activity in the area of global issues, which translates into Poland’s greater role in the world,” noted Minister Czaputowicz.

The meeting at the National School of Publish Administration concluded a series of debates organised by the Regional Centres for International Debate. Their aim was to contribute to the social debate on Polish foreign policy and international issues. The events were held not only in province capitals, but also in smaller towns, such as Nowy Sacz, Trzebnica, Ostroda and Lask. “I am convinced that the support of the civil society strengthens Poland’s international standing, and gives its authorities the mandate to pursue their goals, which are relevant also from the point of view of its citizens. That is why the activities of the Regional Centres for International Debate are so important to us,” emphasised Minister Czaputowicz.

The debates brought together the representatives of opinion-forming circles: non-governmental organisations, local authorities, schools and universities, as well as the media. All meetings were open to the public. The topics of specific debates were proposed by the Regional Centres for International Debate, and they took into account both Poland’s priorities at the international arena, as well as the regional context.

The series of sixteen debates on the achievements of Polish foreign policy was launched on 23 August 2019 in Kielce. The debates were held over seven weeks and ended in Warsaw on 11 October with a debate summing up the series.
