Minister Jacek Czaputowicz in Brazil

The inauguration of Brazil’s new president Jair Bolsonaro took place at the Presidential Palace in the country’s capital, Brasilia. The Polish foreign policy chief congratulated the new president on his electoral victory and wished him every success in his office. He also expressed his hope that Poland and Brazil will enhance their relations.

During his visit to Brazil, Minister Czaputowicz also met with the top diplomats of Peru and Argentina. Minister Czaputowicz and Foreign Minister Néstor Popolizio Bardales of Peru took stock of the state of bilateral relations, with particular focus on political, scientific, and defence collaboration, and cooperation at the UN Security Council. The meeting with Foreign Minister Jorge Marcelo Fauri of Argentina offered an opportunity to highlight close ties between the two countries and emphasize a similar perception of international problems. Minister Jacek Czaputowicz and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo discussed current cooperation between Poland and the US and their joint international initiatives.

On the second day of his visit, Minister Czaputowicz met with the new chief of Brazilian diplomacy Ernesto Araújo. They talked about prospects for bilateral political and economic relations, and about cooperation at international forums. The Polish foreign minister and Brazil’s Secretary of Government Carlos Alberto dos Santos Cruz discussed the new Brazilian administration’s action plan in domestic and foreign policies.
