05.02.2019

On 6 February, Minister Jacek Czaputowicz will take part in a meeting of the Global Coalition against Daesh in Washington D.C. at the invitation of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

The ministerial meeting will take stock of the achievements of the Global Coalition in Iraq and Syria and decide about the direction to take in 2019.

Poland intends to remain actively involved in the Coalition, both in its military and stabilisation dimensions. The chief of Polish diplomacy will also emphasise Poland’s broader efforts to stabilise the Middle East, including the organisation of the ministerial conference in Warsaw on 13-14 February this year, as a clear expression of its commitment.

The Global Coalition against Daesh was launched in 2014 as a US initiative. It currently groups 79 states and organizations (including NATO and the EU). The Global Coalition operations (Operation Inherent Resolve) were instrumental in defeating ISIS and liberating territories occupied by this terrorist group in the Middle East.
