26.08.2019

“We have strong relations with Kuwait that go long back in time. We are aware of the role that Kuwait plays in the region and in the world. Your country is highly appreciated for its generosity and humanitarian actions. We welcome a constant growth in our bilateral contacts,” Poland’s foreign minister said yesterday in Kuwait.

Minister Jacek Czaputowicz visits Kuwait

Minister Jacek Czaputowicz talked with the heir to the throne – Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, President of the National Assembly Marzouq Al-Ghanim and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.‎

All of Minister Jacek Czaputowicz’s interlocutors said in one voice that the Kuwaitis remember how Poland supported Kuwait during Iraqi aggression against it.

Minister Czaputowicz stressed that Kuwait was the first Persian Gulf country to establish diplomatic relations with Poland in 1963. “We have no disputes or disagreements in our political relations, which creates excellent conditions for fostering a constructive and fruitful relationship,” said Minister Czaputowicz.

‎The talks focused on expanding cooperation in trade and investments, the military, education, healthcare, culture, sport and tourism. The officials also discussed how to promote closer cooperation between research institutes from Poland and Kuwait. The Polish foreign minister expressed his hope that trade increases and that there will be more Kuwaiti investments in Poland. He also presented Polish domestic programmes to develop transport infrastructure, including a project to build the largest airport in Central and Eastern Europe. Poland hopes that such undertakings will attract Kuwaiti entrepreneurs and investors. Minister Jacek Czaputowicz also expressed his expectation that both parliaments will forge closer ties, which is important in Polish-Kuwaiti relations.

The meetings in Kuwait also centred around global issues, with a special focus on international security in the Middle East, including Syria and Yemen. Both sides emphasized the importance of a fruitful cooperation during their non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council. They also talked about further actions under the Warsaw Process.

Minister Jacek Czaputowicz stressed that Warsaw considers Kuwait as one of the most important partners in the Persian Gulf and in the Middle East. He expressed his appreciation for Kuwait’s role in mediation and stabilization to preserve security in the region. “I highly value the State of Kuwait’s wise and balanced policy faced with a complex situation in the region,” said the minister.

During his stay in Kuwait, Minister Czaputowicz also visited the Polish embassy, where he met with representatives of the local Polish community, including soldiers stationing in the Ahmed Al Jaber Air Base. He told them: “What matters is to build relations based on friendship and mutual understanding. You help us do it.” He also participated in a mass celebrated by the Apostolic Nuncio to Kuwait Archbishop Francisco Padilla.
