“An ambitious budget for cohesion policy and the Common Agricultural Policy are key challenges facing us. Current priorities cannot be replaced with new ones,” said Minister Konrad Szymański during a meeting with Minister for European Affairs of the Italian Republic Vincenzo Amendola.
The discussion focused on the Multiannual Financial Framework, migration and environmental policy, and EU enlargement. “In many respects we share a common vision of the Multiannual Financial Framework after 2020. New objectives in the area of migration or defence cannot be accomplished at the expense of treaty policies,” stressed Minister Szymański.
While talking on climate policy, Polish minister for European affairs called for agreement on special measures and financial instruments supporting member states that are least privileged in terms of compliance with EU environmental requirements. “Climate transition is possible only when the situation of individual countries is taken into account, and it cannot put disproportionate burdens on our economy,” emphasised Minister Szymański.
Speaking on migration policy, Minister Szymański pointed to the varied situation in individual states. “Poland wants to participate in European measures that will contain illegal immigration and bring back control over the external borders. Solidarity among EU member states cannot be reduced to the unsuccessful relocation experiment of 2015,” added Minister Szymański.
