Minister Radosław Sikorski attends meeting on 70th anniversary of the Messina Conference

Foreign ministers of the EU member states, heads of diplomacies of the EU candidate countries, and the potential candidates for EU membership gathered in Taormina, Italy (18-19 June 2025). The meeting referred to the conference held in 1955, which had a significant impact on the European integration process.

One of the key topics discussed was security. Minister Sikorski emphasised that the strengthening of the defence capabilities inside the UE is indispensable. Besides, the Polish chief of diplomacy talked about the support for Ukraine. The participants of the meeting adopted a declaration that confirms the unity and further support of the EU’s consolidation and enlargement process as the foundations of the defence of the common European interests and values.

Moreover, Minister Sikorski met with the representatives of the European Parliament Committee on Constitutional Affairs. On the sidelines of the meeting, he also talked with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Elmedin Konaković, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Donika Gërvalla-Schwarz, and EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos.
