The talks focused on the Russian invasion of Ukraine and its consequences for European and global security, as well as on the humanitarian and refugee crisis triggered by Russia. Minister Rau thanked for actions taken by the UN General Assembly with respect to the conflict in Ukraine. He underscored the importance of the General Assembly resolution adopted on 2 March 2022, which unequivocally deplores Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine.

The General Assembly resolution demands that Russia immediately, completely and unconditionally withdraw all its armed forces from the territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognised borders. UN members states’ strong support for the resolution was Ukraine’s symbolic victory, at the same time increasing Moscow’s international isolation.
