08.09.2021

Minister Zbigniew Rau spoke with Pakistani Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi to discuss the security situation in South Asia in the context of the Afghanistan crisis, as well as current bilateral issues.

Minister Rau phone call with Pakistani Foreign Minister

The Polish foreign minister thanked his counterpart for Pakistan’s efforts to support the evacuation of Afghan citizens who have worked with the Polish Military Contingent and the former Polish Embassy in Kabul.

Assessing the current situation in Afghanistan, Minister Rau stressed the need for the international community to work together. As he pointed out, this is crucial both to “continue Afghanistan’s progress made over the past 20 years, but also to prevent Afghanistan from becoming a source of regional and global destabilisation.” The chief of Pakistan’s diplomacy also presented his assessment of the situation in Afghanistan.

When assessing the state of bilateral relations, Minister Rau stressed that Pakistan is Poland’s important partner in South Asia. Both ministers at the same time expressed their hope for further strengthening of bilateral contacts, the intensity of which has been reduced by the COVID-19 outbreak.
