Minister Sikorski attends a new year’s meeting of diplomatic corps of Asia-Pacific countries
10.02.2025
Head of the Polish MFA Radosław Sikorski has met today with representatives of the diplomatic corps of the Asia-Pacific countries accredited to Poland as part of traditional meeting to celebrate the new year.
In his address, Poland’s top diplomat highlighted the importance of the current historic moment for Europe and Asia and stressed the impact of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine on the international order. In Minister Sikorski’s opinion, the security of Asia and Europe is inextricably linked, which was particularly visible in 2024. The results of destabilisation caused by the Russian aggression are felt across the world and the activity of some countries supporting Russia’s hostilities adversely impacts the security of Asia and Europe. He added that security issues will remain a priority in bilateral and multilateral contacts with the countries of the region.
The meeting provided an opportunity to introduce the heads of missions of Asia-Pacific countries to Poland’s foreign policy priorities and prospects for the development of bilateral relations with the countries of the region. Minister Sikorski underlined that the increasing importance of Asia and the Pacific was reflected in the activity of Polish diplomacy in 2024. It translated into enhanced diplomatic measures including numerous high-level visits. Reinvigoration of Poland’s relations with countries of the region remains high on the MFA’s agenda and Poland’s current Presidency of the EU Council encourages such activity.
Speaking on behalf of the Asian-Pacific diplomatic corps, Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines Leah Basinang Ruiz noted Poland’s increased engagement in relations with the countries represented at the meeting. She said that in hard times and when faced with growing global uncertainty, Asia-Pacific and European cooperation gains importance. The diplomat also referred to Asia’s increased economic importance and expressed hope that cooperation will be further enhanced.
