The discussions focused on the future of the Council of the Baltic Sea States in the context of the challenges the region is presently facing. The interlocutors concurred that after Russia’s withdrawal the Council calls for changes enabling it to better leverage the cooperation potential in this part of Europe. Meeting participants also talked about the security of the Baltic Sea region in a broad sense, including hybrid threats, cybersecurity, disinformation, and critical infrastructure protection.

The meeting forms part of a series of consultations held by the “Wise Persons” in CBSS member states. During their time in Warsaw, Toomas Henrik Ilves and Gabrielius Langsbergis also held a meeting with Undersecretary of State for European Affairs Marek Prawda. The fruit of the rapporteurs’ work will be presented during the meeting of CBSS foreign ministers, taking place on 15–16 May in Tallinn. Poland will take over the one-year presidency of the CBSS on 1 July 2025.
