“On behalf of the Polish government and Polish Diplomacy I would like to thank you for your commitment and active participation in providing assistance to those who need help in the fight against the pandemic,” said Deputy Minister Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk during an online meeting with representatives of the Polish community in North and South America, Europe, and Asia who took part in the Polonia4Neighbours action.

As part of the Polonia4Neighbours scheme, since April 2020, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has supported the Polish community abroad in its activities and aid initiatives during the pandemic, providing funds for its undertakings and promoting social solidarity in local communities.

The virtual meeting brought together representatives of the Polish diaspora medical community, the clergy, Polish diaspora organisations, and private persons whose commitment to help others during the pandemic was outstanding and commendable. “Today, thanks to technology, I was able to meet with a dozen or so people from around the world, but I am aware that in various pandemic-stricken countries, many aid initiatives are carried out thanks to the efforts of unsung heroes. We are proud that Poles can act in the spirit of solidarity and show empathy at such a difficult time,” stressed the deputy chief of Polish diplomacy.

Polonia4Neighbours involves such measures as organising collections of food, disinfectants or necessary supplies for the ill and elderly; providing free-of-charge psychological and educational support, legal advice (including hotlines, bulletins, etc.) and translation services; holding virtual conferences on Polish doctors’ activities; delivering medicines and essential products for those in need (e.g. senior citizens and people undergoing quarantine); helping through education (for example online lessons and courses teaching how to prepare personal protective equipment such as face masks and disinfectant liquids); culture-related activities (such as sing-along events, new versions of popular songs, etc.), as well as mobilising additional funds by Polish diaspora organisations for undertakings related to extraordinary situations caused by the pandemic.

It should be stressed that a large number of Polish doctors and other medical staff employed in hospitals across the world have also joined in the fight against the pandemic, working with immense dedication.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland would like to thank all compatriots involved in providing assistance worldwide and encourages everyone to join in the Polonia4Neighbours action.
