Minister Zbigniew Rau holds phone call with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken

17.02.2022

The head of Polish diplomacy summed up his recent visit to Moscow as OSCE Chairman-in-Office, and the course of his talks with Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov.

Minister Zbigniew Rau i Sekretarz Stany Antony Blinken

Minister Rau and Secretary of State Blinken noted there are no signs of de-escalation on the part of Russia, despite Moscow’s earlier claims about pulling back its units from the border with Ukraine. Both interlocutors agreed there is still a chance to resolve the crisis diplomatically, with a key role of a dialogue based on three pillars: bilateral US-Russia talks, NATO-Russia Council, and the OSCE forum.

Minister Rau also thanked Secretary Blinken for the US administration’s decision to send more troops to Poland and highlighted the necessity to further strengthen the entire NATO’s eastern flank. The Polish top diplomat also mentioned actions he intends to take in the nearest future both as Poland’s foreign minister and OSCE Chairman-in-Office.
