The talks covered the war in Ukraine. Minister Rau stressed that Kyiv needs support without undue delay. He called on the German government to step up its military support to Ukraine. The ministers exchanged views on sanctions against Russia and the need to ensure energy security.

Minister Rau raised the issue of German compensation to Poland for its losses incurred during the Second World War. He referred to the diplomatic note sent to the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Report presented on 1 September on the losses suffered by Poland as a result of German aggression and occupation during the Second World War. Poland’s and Germany’s top diplomats also discussed the monument to Polish victims of the Second World War in Berlin and the issue of teaching Polish as a native language in Germany.

This was the third bilateral meeting between Ministers Zbigniew Rau and Annalena Baerbock.
