Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau has today concluded his official visit to Moldova as the current Chairman-in-Office of the OSCE.

In Chisinau, the top Polish diplomat met with Moldova’s highest authorities: President Maia Sandu, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicolae Popescu, and Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian.

The talks focused on efforts to find a comprehensive and lasting political solution to the Transdniestrian conflict in all its aspects, as well as on strengthening the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova.

“With this visit, I would like to demonstrate our solidarity and political support for the Republic of Moldova at this difficult time,” stressed the chief of the Polish MFA.

Moldova, like Ukraine’s other neighbours, is currently facing a mass influx of refugees fleeing from the Russian aggression. “The war in Ukraine is seriously affecting the situation of the civilian population,” said Minister Rau, adding that he highly appreciates the active measures taken by Moldova’s society, government and local authorities to assist the refugees.

While in Bender, Minister Rau met with Transdniestrian leader Vadim Krasnoselsky and chief Transdniestrian negotiator Vitaly Ignatiev.

The current OSCE Chairman-in-Office stressed that it is necessary to continue to build trust and constructive dialogue between the parties for the benefit of the population living on both banks of the Dniester River.

Minister Rau emphasised efforts made to reach a comprehensive and peaceful solution to the Transdniestrian conflict based on sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova within its internationally recognised borders, with a special status granted to Transdniestria.
