26.10.2020

- I am glad that the V4 countries started a viable, regular process of information exchange to enhance the effectiveness of our efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, - Minister Zbigniew Rau told Ivan Korčok, Slovakia’s Minister of Foreign and European Affairs in the context of setting up the Virtual V4 Centre for Information Exchange on COVID-19.

The ministers talked about the preparations for Polish-Slovak intergovernmental consultations. “The epidemic does not allow us to organize intergovernmental consultations this year. We need to set a date - it will most probably be late summer 2021 - and start the preparation process,” said Minister Rau. The ministers expressed their hope that the meetings of the speakers of parliaments that were cancelled because of the pandemic will finally take place. Minister Rau also emphasized the necessity to speed up work on the construction of Slovak sections of the Via Carpatia expressway (Road R4) and D3 (continuation of the Polish Road S1).

The talks were also an opportunity to discuss major issues concerning the Eastern Policy, mostly in the context of relations with Russia. Minister Rau told his Slovak counterpart about the recent talks in the framework of the Weimar Triangle. Minister Korčok briefed his interlocutor in detail about the Slavkovsky Triangle cooperation. He also expressed his satisfaction with the current state of the V4 cooperation.
