Our countries have good neighbourly and strategic relations. We have similar views on the security situation in our region and in the Eastern neighbourhood, and our countries’ upcoming OSCE Chairmanships provide an additional impetus for enhancing our cooperation, stressed Minister Rau.

In today’s talks, the officials focused on bilateral and regional cooperation in the field of security policy and the Eastern Neighbourhood as well as within the framework of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe.

The diplomats discussed key aspects of collaboration between the two states under Sweden’s and then Poland’s Chair of the OSCE. They underlined that in the context of the organisation, the link between human rights, democracy and security is of primary importance. They also agreed that the OSCE should take the lead in seeking a solution to the ongoing conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh as well as in Ukraine and Belarus.

Also discussed were the EU-Russia relations, the Eastern Partnership that was set up in 2009 at the initiative of Poland and Sweden, and the security situation in the Baltic Sea region.
