In response to the statement made by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Warsaw on 23 August 2021 and expressing concern about the situation of a group of people camping on the Polish-Belarusian border near Usnarz Górny, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs would like to present the following position:

Concerned to watch the plight of a group of immigrants staying on the territory of Belarus, and guided by humanitarian reasons, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland has submitted today to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus a diplomatic note wherein it offered to provide material aid on site.

The video conference of the North Atlantic Council focused on developments in Afghanistan. Poland was represented by Undersecretary of State Marcin Przydacz. NATO Secretary General praised Poland’s evacuation efforts.

On the first anniversary of Alexey Navalny’s poisoning with nerve-agent of the “Novichok” group, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland reiterates its unequivocal condemnation of the assassination attempt on the most prominent Russian opposition leader. We recall our deep concern about the use of a chemical weapon in this assassination attempt, constituting a serious breach of the Chemical Weapons Convention.

Over half a million AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines will fly to Hanoi today. They are Poland’s gift for Vietnam, which is currently experiencing a deteriorating epidemiological situation.

Over twenty trucks carrying humanitarian aid to fight the COVID-19 pandemic have left Poland today and headed for Ukraine. Another aid transport proves that Poland consistently supports partner countries in need.

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Poland has been engaged in measures to assist other states by sending transports of humanitarian aid and dispatching Polish doctors to countries in need of help. At present, one of the most pressing challenges in this fight is vaccination.

The discussion focused on the EU’s response to current developments in Afghanistan, coordination of evacuation and humanitarian measures, and the challenges of possible coordination of development assistance to the people of Afghanistan.

According to the information available to the MFA, five Polish citizens are currently staying in Afghanistan. They are in constant contact with the Polish consul in New Delhi, as well as the Embassies of France, Germany and the US in Kabul with regard to the possibilities of evacuation from the territory of Afghanistan.
