Marked on 15 September, the International Day of Democracy is of particular importance to Poland. Democracy is an integral part of Poland’s heritage, while the traditions of Polish parliamentarism, the experience of Solidarity, and the success of a peaceful transition invariably make the promotion of democracy and human rights the priorities of Polish foreign policy.

“Right now, the only possible way forward is for the British side to present concrete backstop proposals,” Deputy Minister Konrad Szymański said after a meeting with Stephen Barclay, UK Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union.

“Indonesia is our key partner in Southeast Asia. We appreciate its role as the leader of ASEAN and we witness its growing positive activity on the world stage,” Minister Jacek Czaputowicz said after his meeting with Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi of the Republic of Indonesia.

Talks with India’s civil aviation minister on the occasion of the launch of Warsaw-New Delhi flights, meeting with India’s deputy foreign minister, and the opening of Poland-India Business Forum were the most important points on the agenda of Undersecretary of State Marcin Przydacz’s visit to India.

“In order to achieve ambitious goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, we need to engage the private sector,” highlighted Undersecretary of State at the MFA Marcin Przydacz opening a seminar in Warsaw on private sector involvement in development cooperation.

“There are many ways to describe the service you have decided to choose. It is unique not only because it is sometimes perceived as an elite profession but also because it is very demanding,” Minister Jacek Czaputowicz said during today’s ceremony at the MFA Diplomatic Academy.

“Poland and the region of Latin America and the Caribbean are linked by cultural and historical ties. They also share common ideals, such as the respect for human rights, Christian values and democracy. This serves as a good foundation for cooperation and dialogue,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs Jacek Czaputowicz during the inauguration of the second Latin America Day at the Polish Sejm.

Exchange of experience in economic diplomacy and cooperation in implementing potential joint projects and initiatives were the main subjects of talks between Deputy Minister Marcin Przydacz and Lukasz Parizek, State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia.

On 10 September 2019, the General Court of the European Union issued a judgement annulling the European Commission’s decision of 28 October 2016 on review of the exemption of the OPAL pipeline from the requirements on third party access (TPA) and tariff regulation granted under Directive 2003/55/EC (currently Directive 2009/73/EC). The ruling is Poland’s great success.

“Poland fully supports the European perspective of the Western Balkans and stands for a quick launching of accession negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia,” said Minister Czaputowicz during today’s meeting with Albanian Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Gent Cakaj. “We hope that the decisions will be made during the General Affairs Council session in October,” he added.
