The talks during today’s meeting of the EU ministers of foreign affairs focused on the war in Ukraine and the political situation in the Middle East.

During today’s meeting, Minister Radosław Sikorski and Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) Matteo Mecacci focused on Poland’s cooperation with ODIHR regarding promotion of democracy and the rule of law, as well as the Office’s engagement in the monitoring of human rights violations committed by Russia in Ukraine.

Head of Polish diplomacy Radosław Sikorski met today in Warsaw with Xavier Espot Zamora, Prime Minister of the Principality of Andorra. The talks focused on bilateral relations, association treaty negotiations with the European Union, and support for Ukraine in the face of Russia’s aggression.

Undersecretary of State Marek Prawda met today with Heiko Maas, President of the Governing Board of the German Institute of Polish Affairs in Darmstadt and a former German foreign minister.

Speaking today with his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, the head of the Polish MFA appreciated the assistance extended by the Egyptian side to expedite the procedure to transfer the corpse of Damian Soból, a World Central Kitchen volunteer killed in an Israeli attack on a humanitarian aid convoy in the Gaza Strip.

On 18 April 2024, Undersecretary of State at the Polish MFA Henryka Mościcka-Dendys spoke with Sweden’s Diplomatic Academy students who are on a study visit to Poland.

Undersecretary of State Henryka Mościcka-Dendys presented awards to authors of academic and popular science publications released in 2022 and awarded in the 7th edition of the Foreign Minister’s History Contest. In her address, she underlined that the awarded works not only expand our knowledge, but also facilitate the understanding of the Polish perspective and historical experiences. These different perspectives are the contest’s added value especially regarding the papers on Polish history by foreign authors.

On 15 April, Undersecretary of State at the Polish MFA Marek Prawda met in Warsaw with Anna Lührmann, Minister of State at the German Federal Foreign Office, and Torbjörn Sohlström, Head of the Ministers Office at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

The situation in the Middle East was the main topic of the videoconference of EU member states’ ministers of foreign affairs.

Organised at the initiative of France, Germany and the European Commission, the event was held in Paris on 15 April and followed up on the debates in Geneva in June 2023, in New York in September 2023, and in Cairo in November 2023.
