Minister Rau also met with Ambassador Dominique Waag, Head of the OSCE Mission to Montenegro, Mission staff, whom he thanked for their excellent work, and with representatives of Montenegro’s civil society.

The chief of Polish diplomacy acknowledged Montenegro’s recent reforms, which he perceives as reflecting the OSCE’s underlying principles and values and which make the country a stable and constructive partner in the region. He pointed out that Montenegro’s adherence to solidarity, the rule of law and a culture of dialogue is strongly reaffirmed by the position it has taken recently at this difficult time for Europe and the world.

“Close relations and your country’s commitment to the values that have shaped the OSCE are yet again reflected in Montenegro’s unequivocal and principled position on Russian aggression against Ukraine. As the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, I wish to highly commend your country for your full support and compliance with EU foreign and security policy.  The stand you have taken means a lot at a time when our European security and the entire rules-based international order are being undermined by Russia,” stressed Minister Rau speaking to the Montenegrin leadership.

He encouraged the country to enhance cooperation with the Organization and to benefit from its potential in implementing further changes, highlighting its importance in Podgorica’s integration process with the European Union.

During his visit, Minister Rau also raised bilateral cooperation, which is marked by a deep friendship and a lack of differences on strategic issues, such as NATO membership and commitment to European integration. Expressing his hope for continued development of bilateral relations, he said that Poland values Montenegro as a reliable security partner and will support it as regards the challenges involved in the Russian aggression.
