Poland and Indonesia hold political consultations
07.09.2026
On 7 September, MFA Secretary of State Władysław Teofil Bartoszewski met with Grata Endah Werdaningtyas, Director General of American and European Affairs at Indonesia's Ministry for Foreign Affairs. The talks focused on fostering bilateral relations, security in Europe, and the situation in the Indo-Pacific region.
The interlocutors emphasised the importance of regular political dialogue for the furthering strengthening of Polish–Indonesian relations. They discussed opportunities to intensify economic cooperation, particularly in the agri-food, energy, new technologies, and green technology sectors. They also noted the need to continue supporting cooperation between businesses from Poland and Indonesia.
Deputy Foreign Minister Władysław Teofil Bartoszewski highlighted the significance of Poland’s accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) in July 2026. The accession reflects Poland’s growing engagement in the Indo-Pacific region and creates additional opportunities for developing cooperation with the member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Poland regards Indonesia as an important partner in the region and is interested in a further deepening of relations, both bilaterally and within the framework of EU–ASEAN cooperation. The Indonesian side pointed to the success of Poland’s economic transformation and emphasised its interest in Poland’s experience, which serves as an important reference point for cooperation between the two countries, including within the G20 framework.
An exchange of views on international affairs and security was an important element of the talks. Among other topics, Deputy Minister Władysław Teofil Bartoszewski and Director General Grata Endah Werdaningtyas discussed the situation in Europe and the Indo-Pacific, Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, and the key challenges to the international order. They stressed the importance of respect for international law, the principles of the Charter of the United Nations, and effective multilateralism.
The talks confirmed the broad potential for strengthening relations between Poland and Indonesia, both bilaterally and in the context of cooperation with ASEAN.
