On 3 August 2022, Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Przydacz met with Derek Chollet, Counselor of the US Department of State, to deposit ratification instruments of Protocols on Finland’s and Sweden’s accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The documents had been signed by President Andrzej Duda. Submitting the documents was the final step in the process of ratifying the protocols by Poland. So far, out of 30 NATO members, ten countries have completed the ratification procedure, including Poland.

The fact that the documents were handed in by the deputy foreign minister himself reflects the particular importance Poland attaches to NATO’s enlargement to Finland and Sweden. The two countries’ accession to the Alliance will strengthen the transatlantic community in the face of the threat posed by Russia, thus contributing to enhanced security of our country and the allied states.
