Poland-Croatia political consultations

11.03.2024

The security situation in Europe, EU enlargement policy, and bilateral issues were the main topics of today’s talks between Deputy Foreign Minister Marek Prawda and Andreja Metelko-Zgombić, State Secretary for Europe in the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia.

Meeting between Minister Marek Prawda and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Croatia ‍‍Andreja Metelko-Zgombić.

Both sides underlined the very good state of bilateral relations and their willingness to maintain strong momentum in political dialogue. Economic relations are also developing successfully, as evidenced by the ever-increasing trade of almost 2 billion EUR, with Croatia being one of the top destinations for Polish tourists.

Also discussed was the situation in Ukraine. The officials stressed the importance of solidarity and maintaining political, military, and humanitarian commitment to Kyiv. They agreed on the need to strengthen our own capabilities, both within NATO and the EU, which will act as a deterrent to the Kremlin’s pursuit of its political and military objectives in Europe. Deputy Minister Prawda thanked for the understanding for Poland’s calls to maintain NATO’s forward presence on the eastern flank, as demonstrated by a Croatian military contingent in Bemowo Piskie.

Deputy Ministers Prawda and Metelko-Zgombić also discussed the EU’s enlargement policy. Both Warsaw and Zagreb are determined to continue working towards accelerating the European integration of Ukraine and Moldova and the Western Balkans region as a whole. Both sides declared their willingness to cooperate in this area during the forthcoming Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2025.
