Poland elected to the International Atomic Energy Agency Board of Governors

24.09.2020

During an annual session of the General Conference in Vienna, representatives of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Member States elected Poland to the Board of Governors for 2020-2022.

International Atomic Energy Agency

Membership in this body will enable us to strengthen our international commitment to non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and peaceful use of atomic energy. Poland participates actively in all existing nuclear non-proliferation regimes, organizations and initiatives. It is reflected in our engagement in the current review cycle of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).

The IAEA is an autonomous international organization within the United Nations system, established in 1957 (Poland is its founding member) to coordinate all activities related to the peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology. Through its safeguards and verification system, the IAEA plays a unique role in the international nuclear non-proliferation regime.
