Poland hands over instrument of ratification of Nancy Treaty
23.12.2025
Undersecretary of State Henryka Mościcka-Dendys presented French Ambassador Étienne de Poncins with the instrument of ratification of the Treaty for Enhanced Cooperation and Friendship between the Republic of Poland and the French Republic. The document confirms that our country has completed all ratification procedures and is now eventually bound by the Treaty.
During the ceremonial handover of the instrument, Deputy Minister Henryka Mościcka-Dendys stressed that both the negotiation of the Treaty and its ratification process went smoothly and quickly. She also expressed her gratitude for the close cooperation with the French side in this regard.
Signed on 9 May 2025, the Treaty for Enhanced Cooperation and Friendship between the Republic of Poland and the French Republic is the culmination of many months of effort by both governments. It provides legal foundation for the development of Polish–French cooperation in all areas. The Treaty systematises and specifies strategic areas of cooperation. It generates new stimuli for enhanced cooperation including in the areas of security and defence, energy and economy, infrastructure, agriculture, education, culture, and people-to-people contacts.
As Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski emphasised early this year, the location where the Treaty was signed is symbolic—it was in Nancy, the capital of Lorraine, that the former king of Poland Stanisław Leszczyński once ruled.
The handover of the instrument of ratification is the final stage in the procedure for consenting to be bound by the Treaty’s provisions. The Treaty of Nancy will enter into force on 22 January 2026. Effective and comprehensive implementation of its provisions remains both parties’ common goal.
