“It is very important for us that you will take a closer look at the Poland of today and how we remember history and look after memorial sites, how much attention we pay to the current development of Poland,” said Deputy Minister Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk to the participants of the “Poland is in you” (Polska jest w Tobie) programme.

It was already the second meeting within the “Poland is in you” initiative. This time Poland was visited by young Poles from Brazil, Venezuela and western Europe (Belgium, France and Italy). A short performance was presented. The youth also shared their impressions of their stay in Poland.

“You are the ambassadors of Poland. I am deeply thankful for your presence and I ask you to wear your Polish identity like a badge of honour”, said Deputy Minister Szynkowski vel Sęk to the young Poles.

“Poland is in you” is a project that allowed 250 young people of Polish origin from Kazakhstan, Russia, Latvia, Belarus, the US, Brazil, Argentina and Western European countries to come to Poland for a summer camp. In July and August, young people aged 12 to 20 visited Warsaw, Gdansk, Wroclaw, Wadowice, Zakopane and Krakow and met with the representatives of state authorities and war veterans.

The programme, under the Honorary Patronage of the President of Poland Andrzej Duda, was inaugurated on 15 July 2019 at the Presidential Palace. “Poland is in you” is a joint initiative of more than a dozen state institutions, NGOs and commercial entities involved in promoting and building relations with the Polish diaspora and the Polish community abroad. During their stay in Poland, the participants learn Polish language, visit the landmarks of Polish history and culture, and take part in various workshops and training courses.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the strategic partner of the programme. The youth were swiftly recruited in Argentina, Brazil, the US, Kazakhstan, Russia, Latvia and Belarus with the engagement of Polish diplomatic and consular missions. Moreover, the MFA supported the programme by using the funds of the Department for Cooperation with Polish Diaspora and Poles Abroad to subsidise the travel of youth from Argentina, Brazil, Kazakhstan and Russia.
