The Polish top diplomat assured Minister Wehbe of his heartfelt sympathy, solidarity and support for the families of the victims. He also declared Poland’s readiness to help the Lebanese government stabilize the difficult situation. More than 100 people lost their lives and 4,000 were injured in the explosion which destroyed the Beirut port and a large part of the city.

Minister Czaputowicz announced that Poland is sending a search and rescue group and a medical rescue team to Lebanon to take part in the rescue operation. They will also deliver first aid medical drugs and supplies.

Lebanon is a priority destination of Polish humanitarian aid and development assistance, and an important player in the region. Poland carries out many aid projects on the ground to support Syrian refugees and local communities. As the largest ERI (Economic Resilience Initiative) donor, Poland takes part in actions to help people in need take a job and further infrastructure projects for refugees and the poorest part of the Lebanese society. In 2019, the Polish Military Contingent joined the UN UNIFIL operation, deploying 216 Polish troops in Lebanon.
