Polish humanitarian aid for India

07.05.2021

“As a member of the international community, Poland acts with responsibility and solidarity – we respond to the most urgent problems and crises across the world. By providing assistance to countries particularly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, we not only offer direct support to their citizens but also seek to ensure global health security,” said Deputy Minister Paweł Jabłoński on the day Poland’s humanitarian aid transport was dispatched to India.

The Indian side called on the international community for urgent help in the face of the dramatic epidemiological situation in the country caused by an alarming spike in COVID-19 infection numbers. In response to this appeal, Poland decided to provide India with 100 oxygen concentrators and necessary medical equipment from the supplies of the Government Agency for Strategic Reserves.

The Republic of India asked for oxygen generators and concentrators, ventilators, oxygen cylinders as well as medications used in supportive therapy of COVID-19 patients.
Lack of medical oxygen, main drugs, and hospital beds have placed the Indian health services on the verge of collapse.

Thanks to LOT Polish Airlines, Poland will dispatch to India over 1.5 tonne of medical equipment. The humanitarian aid will be delivered by LOT Polish Airlines on 6 May 2021
to reach directly the Indian Red Cross in New Delhi. Apart from LOT and the Government Agency for Strategic Reserves, the transport is organised by the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Government Centre for Security and the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in New Delhi.
