Polish MFA chief meets with chairman of Georgian parliament

01.03.2019

“On the international stage, Poland has been continuously supporting Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty within its internationally recognized borders. We advocate a political resolution of the problems resulting from Russia’s military aggression against sovereign Georgia,” stressed the chief of Polish diplomacy during a meeting with Irakli Kobakhidze.

The chief of Polish MFA praised Georgia’s efforts and the consistency with which Tbilisi has pursued the policy of European and Euro-Atlantic integration. “It is with great satisfaction that we see Georgia consistently orienting its foreign policy towards the Western world, as confirmed by the recent amendment to its Constitution which obliges its state institutions to continue the country’s development towards a deeper integration with the EU and NATO,” he noted.

Referring to the first session of the Polish-Georgian Parliamentary Assembly, which concluded today, the chief of Polish diplomacy expressed his belief that the initiatives and activities undertaken in the Assembly would make a major contribution to the relations between our countries and further deepen Polish-Georgian institutional cooperation.

Both interlocutors emphasized the special nature of friendly relations between Poland and Georgia and agreed that it was an appropriate time to boost trade which nowadays did not reflect the potential and economic capabilities of the two countries. Minister Czaputowicz expressed his hope that the date of a meeting of the Polish-Georgian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation would be set soon.

Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze came to Poland at the invitation of Speaker of the Polish Senate Stanisław Karczewski for a two-day official visit on the occasion of the inaugural session of the Parliamentary Assembly of Poland and Georgia.
