“The exhibition we are showing traces the revival of the Polish Foreign Service, which was a milestone in Poland’s regaining its independent and sovereign position on the international stage,” Deputy Minister Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk said today at the opening of the Revival of the Polish Foreign Service between 1917 and 1921 exhibition hosted by the Royal Castle in Warsaw.

“By showcasing the achievements of the Second Polish Republic’s diplomatic heroes we pay tribute to them, and demonstrate how effective their service was. This also reminds us that we need to invoke their ethos in modern times,” emphasized the deputy chief of Polish diplomacy.

The exhibition charts how Poland’s diplomatic and consular service was restored, recalling both its institutions and specific diplomats. It highlights the work of the Polish National Committee in Paris, the activities of the Regency Council, and the power centre formed by the Provisional Chief of State. The display also looks at how the network of Polish diplomatic missions was set up, and chronicles efforts to secure the best possible relations with our neighbours.

The event was also an opportunity to announce the winners of this year’s history competition of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for the best publications promoting the history of Poland and of Polish diplomacy.
