19.05.2019

“In 2018, Poland spent over EUR 35.7 million on humanitarian aid in the Middle East and we will continue this assistance this year,” assured the chief of Polish diplomacy during his visit at the Zaatari camp for Syrian refugees.

Second day of Minister Czaputowicz’s visit to Jordan

At the camp, Minister Czaputowicz visited a training centre for medical staff built with the help of MFA funds under the small project programme carried out by foreign posts. The project’s main objective, implemented by Jordan Health Aid Society International (JHASI) is to train medical personnel that provides help to those in need at the camp on a daily basis. JHASI will also take part in the Warsaw Humanitarian Expo, which will be held on 10-12 June.

The chief of the Polish MFA also visited an EU-funded obstetric clinic and met with the refugees.

Furthermore, Polish Medical Mission is carrying out a humanitarian project titled “Support for Syrian refugees in the Zaatari Refugee Camp and Jordanians in the Mafraq and Irbid Governorate in the field of social assistance and shelter” at the Zaatari camp. The programme, funded by Polish Aid, brings aid to 21,785 people and aims to support the most vulnerable social groups by providing them access to shelter and social assistance at the Zaatari camp and in the Mafraq and Irbid Governorates.

Currently, around 1.27 million Syrians live in Jordan. Half of them are registered as refugees, while some 120 thousand live at camps. Consequently, Jordan has the second highest share of refugees compared to its population in the world.
