15.12.2025
Deputy chief of MFA Marcin Bosacki participated in a Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) meeting held in Brussels on 15 December. EU foreign ministers discussed among others Russia's ongoing aggression against Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, and EU-China relations.
- Europe should become an integral part of Ukraine’s security commitments while enhancing the guarantees provided by the Coalition of the Willing and acting in synergy with NATO initiatives - underlined Deputy Minister Bosacki. The talks also covered EU security guarantees for Ukraine, a reparations loan, and US–Russia–Ukraine peace talks.
The deputy minister said that Poland continues its military support for Ukraine despite one member state blocking the disbursement of funds from the European Peace Facility (EPF). He noted that Poland has provided Ukraine with funds originally earmarked for the EPF through the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative within NATO. Deputy Minister Bosacki supported the reparations loan proposal for Ukraine, which was presented by the European Commission. He expressed his expectation that the European Council will agree later this week that providing financial support for Ukraine will be an absolute priority. The deputy head of Polish diplomacy stressed the need to adopt another round of sectoral sanctions against Russia, aimed at the energy sector, including Russian oil companies, the financial sector, and facilitators.
When discussing the situation in the Middle East, Deputy Minister Marcin Bosacki expressed cautious optimism concerning developments in Syria. He pointed out that the support from the EU, the US, and regional partners may help stabilise and rebuild the country. It remains crucial to limit Russia’s influence in Syria through political dialogue and adjusting the EU sanctions regime against Syria to the evolving situation.
In the discussion on EU–China relations, the MFA secretary of state underlined the importance of unity among EU member states towards China. The European Union should focus on limiting risks and balancing bilateral relations.
